Crimson walls. Emerald parasols. Figures draped in electric blue and acid yellow. This large scale oil on canvas commands every wall it inhabits. Two figures anchor the composition:
One seated under a vivid green umbrella, one standing tall against a blazing red backdrop alive with monstera leaves. Below, a tiled market surface holds bowls of fruit and wares rendered in strokes of pure, unblended pigment.
Fauvist in spirit, African in soul. Natural craquelure confirms the painting’s age and authenticity. Signed lower center: m. Decombes.
