Finely handcrafted Syrian games table, most likely Damascus work, richly decorated throughout with traditional geometric mosaic marquetry and mother of pearl inlay. The folding top transforms the table into several different playing surfaces, including chess/draughts, backgammon (Tawla/Tavla), and a surface suitable for card games. The decoration continues across the top, interior boards, apron, shaped legs and lower stretcher shelf, making this an unusually elaborate decorative piece even when closed.
The geometric star motifs, contrasting specimen woods and small mother of pearl inserts are characteristic of the celebrated Damascus marquetry tradition.
