Large circular hand worked iron steel shield with a shallow convex form, four raised bosses and engraved decoration across the face. The surface retains extensive dark oxidation, patina, scratches and age related wear. The reverse preserves the metal fittings and an aged strap/grip assembly.
This form is commonly associated with South Asian dhal and Persian sipar shields. Exact origin and date have not been independently authenticated.
