Vintage handmade silk carpet from Tianjin, China, featuring a central sinuous dragon rendered in deep navy on an ivory ground, surrounded by auspicious cloud scrolls, Buddhist emblems, and polychrome floral roundels. The broad outer border combines a classic Greek key meander with repeating coin and talisman motifs in navy and white. The carpet is finished with natural silk fringe on both ends.
The design draws on the imperial tradition of dragon carpets produced for the Qing court and its successors, reinterpreted here in the refined export style of the mid to late 20th century Tianjin workshops. The sculpted pile technique accentuates the dragon's body and cloud forms in low relief.
