Highly decorative tabletop picture frame with a 925 sterling silver front, richly worked with classical figures, floral garlands, scrolls and architectural ornament. The sculptural crest depicts a classical female figure with a child/putto, surrounded by flowers and an urn. The silver front is mounted over a substantial polished wood structure with an easel back.
The frame is clearly marked 925 together with additional characters including an R type mark and numeric marking. The construction appears consistent with European, likely Italian, silver front frames in which sterling silver sheet is worked over a reinforced support. The exact maker has not yet been identified.
Natural patina and age related surface wear have been preserved.
