A finely worked Ottoman panel in the dival (Sarma) technique, with raised gilt metal thread embroidery couched over padding on deep purple silk velvet. Made in the Istanbul workshop tradition in the late 19th century.

The design is symmetrical around a central urn motif, with acanthus scrolls, flowering sprays and lattice work fills. The embroidery is dense, complete and intact, and the metal thread has developed a natural warm patina with age.
