Large 19th century Ottoman Syrian kindjal or short sword with a broad single edged steel blade, upswept point and three narrow longitudinal fullers. A small struck workshop or maker’s mark is visible on the blade.
The hilt is fitted with dark organic grip scales, probably horn, secured by two large iron rivets. The piece retains substantial age character, with oxidation, scratches, patination and surface wear to the blade. The grip shows extensive cracking, separation and old losses. Scabbard not present.
The form, triple fullered blade and riveted grip are consistent with documented 19th century kindjals from Ottoman Syria / Greater Syria.
