Chinese Blanc de Chine Guanyin Figure with Lotus
A serene and finely modelled Chinese Blanc de Chine figure of Guanyin, the Buddhist goddess of mercy, depicted standing in flowing robes with a lotus bloom held to her chest. A strand of prayer beads (mala) is delicately applied in relief to her chest. She stands on a tiered circular pedestal base with applied cloud and scroll decoration.
The ivory white glaze is characteristic of the celebrated Dehua kilns of Fujian province, renowned for their lustrous, milk white porcelain figures. The underside bears a red seal mark. The piece shows natural age related patina and minor surface wear consistent with an antique example.
