African Tribal Mask Guro / Baule Style, Wood & Horn

A commanding example of West African ceremonial mask making, this hand carved piece displays the characteristic features of the Guro or Baule tradition of Côte d'Ivoire. An elongated oval face with serene closed eyes, delicately incised brow and lip lines, a dark-pigmented domed cap with a raw wood cylindrical finial, and dramatically projecting pointed ear flanges.

Most striking are the three natural animal tusks or horns emerging from the lower face, a powerful zoomorphic element that blurs the boundary between human and animal spirit a hallmark of masks used in Do or Gu masquerade traditions. The reverse shows a deeply hollowed interior with original attachment holes, confirming authentic ceremonial use.
