A large and richly adorned Dan ceremonial mask from the Liberia / Côte d'Ivoire border region. The carved wooden face features the classic Dan oval form with a deep grey black ritual patina, slit eyes, strong nose, and full lips.
Framed by an intact woven raffia and fabric border with red dyed sections, cowrie shell adornments, animal fur tufts, and an animal horn mounted at the upper left. The hollowed reverse with stitched raffia confirms authentic ceremonial origin.
