A fine antique French opaline glass vase of elegant bottle form, decorated overall with hand applied cobalt blue trailing in a pulled feather (verre filé) pattern. The milky white opaline body is decorated from the globular base to the tall slender neck with rhythmic arched pulls of deep cobalt blue glass, creating a striking feather or scale like effect across the entire surface. The neck terminates in a delicate ruffled rim, and the piece stands on a flat cobalt blue disc foot.
The top image reveals a dramatic view from above, showing the intricate web like interior pattern created by the trailing technique. A rare and beautifully piece of decorative glassmaking.
